About Recovery Select
Recovery Select is an independent editorial guide to high-ticket home recovery equipment. We are not a retailer, not a brand, and not for sale to either.
Why this site exists
Home recovery equipment sits in an awkward place. The purchases are large — often the most expensive thing in a room — the return logistics are painful, and the category is sold on physiological claims that range from well-evidenced to entirely invented. Meanwhile most of the buying content that exists is either produced by the brands themselves or assembled by affiliate sites that have never looked closely at a single specification.
Recovery Select is a narrower attempt: cover four categories properly, say clearly what each recommendation is based on, and treat the reader as someone about to spend serious money rather than someone to be converted.
What we cover
Four categories, chosen because they share the same buying problem — high price, low return rate, heavy marketing:
- Saunas — Traditional, infrared and hybrid cabins for the home.
- Cold Plunges — Chillers, tubs and the plumbing realities behind them.
- Red Light Therapy — Panels, beds and how to read irradiance claims honestly.
- Massage Chairs — Track geometry, body fit and what the feature lists hide.
We do not cover consumables, supplements, wearables or clinical equipment. If a category does not involve a major one-time purchase for a home, it is out of scope.
How we evaluate
Recovery Select does not accept payment for placement or for a favourable verdict. Our recommendations are built from manufacturer documentation, published specifications, warranty and service terms, owner-reported reliability, and peer-reviewed research where it exists.
What we base recommendations on
Manufacturer specifications and installation documentation, published warranty and service terms, safety and electrical certifications, aggregated owner-reported reliability, and the published research literature where a health claim is being made.
What we do not claim
We do not claim hands-on testing unless a piece explicitly says we tested a unit, states how long we had it, and describes what we measured. Where our assessment is based on documentation rather than use, the article says so.
How rankings are decided
Every guide states its ranking criteria before it names a product. A product cannot buy a position, and no brand sees a guide before publication.
How we handle health claims
Recovery equipment is marketed with strong physiological claims. We separate what is well supported, what is plausible but under-evidenced, and what is unsupported — and we cite the research rather than the brochure. Nothing here is medical advice.
How affiliate links work
Some outbound links to merchants are affiliate links and may earn us a commission at no additional cost to you. Commission rates are not a ranking input, and a product with no affiliate programme can and does win a category.
When we update or retract
Guides carry a visible last-updated date. When a product is discontinued, revised, or a verdict changes, we update the piece and note what changed rather than quietly editing it.
Why we do not publish prices
We do not publish prices on this site. Prices on high-ticket recovery equipment change frequently and vary by configuration and promotion, so we link to the merchant listing where the current price is shown.
What we will not do
Some of these are legal obligations and some are editorial choices. All of them are commitments:
- We will not fabricate testimonials, customer counts, testing results, or specifications.
- We will not claim hands-on testing we have not done, and we will not use words like “tested” or “we tried” to describe reading a manual.
- We will not accept payment, product, or hospitality in exchange for a position, a badge, or a verdict.
- We will not present a medical claim as settled when the research is not.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, we want to know, and we would rather hear it from a reader than from a brand's lawyer. Email [email protected] or use the contact form. Corrections are made in the article with a note describing what changed.
Health disclaimer
Recovery Select publishes consumer buying guidance. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this site is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. Heat, cold and light exposure all carry real contraindications. Speak with a qualified clinician before starting a protocol, particularly if you are pregnant or have a cardiovascular condition.
