Four categories of high-ticket home recovery equipment, each with its own set of decisions that actually matter.
- SaunasHome saunas split into three broad families — traditional Finnish rooms heated by a stove, infrared cabins that warm the body directly, and hybrids that attempt both. The right choice depends far more on your electrical supply, your space, and the heat experience you actually want than on any single spec on a brochure.
- Cold PlungesA cold plunge is really two purchases in one: the vessel you sit in, and the refrigeration and filtration system that keeps the water cold and clean. Most buyer regret in this category comes from underestimating the second half — chiller capacity, sanitation, drainage and ambient temperature all decide whether the unit is pleasant to live with.
- Red Light TherapyRed light therapy is the category where marketing claims most often outrun the evidence. The useful questions are narrow: what wavelengths does the device emit, what irradiance does it actually deliver at a realistic treatment distance, how is that figure measured, and how large is the treatment area. Everything else is packaging.
- Massage ChairsMassage chairs are the most spec-dense category in home recovery, and the least useful to shop on specs alone. Track shape, roller travel and the chair’s fit to your own height and frame determine whether it feels therapeutic or merely busy. Footprint in recline is the constraint most buyers discover too late.
